President LaVonda Keel called the meeting to order at 9:30 and introduced the Officers. She then called on Betty Austin to bless the food and the meeting began.
Secretary Tracy Crutchfield called the roll and the following were in attendance; Country Club of Birmingham, Gardendale Tennis, Greystone CC, Highland RC, Homewood Park, Inverness CC, Lake Cyrus, LJCC, Lifetime Fitness, Old Overton CC, Pelham RC, Riverchase CC, Trussville RC, YMCA Greystone, YMCA Mountain Brook and YMCA Trussville. Tracy then asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the Spring meeting and a motion was made, seconded and approved.
Betty Austin then gave the Treasurer’s report. In summary $4000 was donated to Susan Briggs Tournament, and $5200 was spent on prizes and $3600 was deposited for Spring 2022 league fees leaving a balance of $7600 before Fall League fees are deposited. A motion was made to approve the report, it was seconded and approved.
AnneMarie Wilson gave us a scheduling update and we now have 55 teams registered for Fall. She made note that the 4.5 schedules were updated on 8-21, and now all schedules are final. AnneMarie thanked Nancy Thomas for her help with scheduling and said that we have had growth in our 3.0 and 3.5 levels. It was also reported that due to construction, Gardendale will not be able to host any home matches this season and will bring balls to all of their scheduled home matches to be played at their opponent’s courts. In observance of Yom Kippur-LJCC and Pinetree CC will reschedule their October 5th match to October 26th.
Ethics's Chair Tammy Schoel gave an update and reported that we had a 4.5 team move up due to multiple wins and 2 player move-ups. LaVonda thanked Tammy for her service as a Past President and presented her with an Orchid and stated that a charitable donation has been made in her honor to Rainbow Omega which serves adults with developmental disabilities.
Tracy Smith then announced the Winter and Spring winners and that list can be found on the website. Prizes for winners and runners up were gift cards from Player’s Choice.
Deborah Standifer then gave the Susan Briggs Tournament report. It was the 12th year for the Tournament and they had 114 players. The Tournament was held at Inverness Country Club and they were thanked for their hospitality. Lunch was provided each day and prizes were given to winners in 7 divisions. Overall it was a great success and equipment will be given to Carver High School to aid with their developing tennis program as well as to four deserving young ladies to help with furthering their tennis goals. Deborah stated that they had many applicants for the Scholarship program and chose the recipients based on need and also GPA’s and community service. She urged everyone to look on Facebook for photos from the tournament.
LaVonda then went over to New Business-she again thanked Tammy Schoel for her service and also Patti Moultrie for her past work as Treasurer. Betty Austin will assist Patti as she transitions off the board and will then take over as Treasurer. LaVonda announced that we are in need of a Computer Technician for ongoing issues with our website and hope to have it updated to be more efficient and user friendly soon. She then reminded everyone that we do have a rule regarding balls for matches and it states that all balls must be USTA approved and must also be appropriate for whichever surface the match will be played on. Please make Captains aware of this rule. It was also discussed how any one can provide balls if there is an issue or question regarding this.
Tracy Smith then gave out the door prizes and the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Tracy Crutchfield
